SRC 2008 Performer Lineup

Participation Guidelines

  • Each Library (not location) will again receive a program paid for by ACLA.  This year, we're asking you to work with the other libraries in your region to create a 'Regional Plan.'  Here are the Libraries broken out by region.  libraries by region.doc  We're hoping this approach will encourage collaboration between libraries and ensure each region a diverse lineup.
  • Included in your Regional Plan will be the following:
    • A list (in Word or Excel) of the libraries in your region with each library's proposed program and date (please try to create as diverse a list as possible.  Though some regions have more libraries than programs offered, we'd like each performer to ideally get a chance to perform in each region.)
    • A flier (nothing fancy, 8 1/2 X 11!) that includes each library's date, location and performer that can be printed and available at each library for your communities.
  • The deadline for submission of your Plan is March 30.  However, because performers are booked on a first come, first served basis, the sooner you submit your plan, the sooner it is approved and you can finalize your performances.  You'll notice that each performer has a limited number of available performances.  Feel free to contact the performers as you're getting your plan together to investigate their availability.
  • Libraries can feel free to book any of the performers on your own for which your library pays.
  • By scheduling an ACLA-underwritten SRC program, you will also committ to partnering with a local organization or group such as a school group, YMCA, daycamp, daycare to ensure an audience for your program.
  • As your plans are approved, I will update the tables below.

Lethan Candish: Storyteller 1 Performance Available

Lethan Candlish, the storyteller of Traveling Tales, tells a wide variety of folktales from around the world in an active and animated style, keeping his tales alive by interacting with the audience and giving each character their own voice. Because of this, Lethan’s tellings have been enjoyed by children and adults of all ages.  He has performed at schools, libraries, and festivals around the United States in cities including: Butler, PA; Philadelphia, PA; Bethlehem, PA; Boston, MA; Johnson City, TN; and Sacramento, CA.

Lethan has been described as: “…Full of life…Flexible, enthusiastic, prompt, pleasant (Karen Roszel, Children’s Librarian)…”, “…A master of his craft (Lisa Keller, Middle School Enrichment Teacher),” and as having “…A contagious enthusiasm for storytelling (Hal Pratt, Library Director).

As part of this summer’s Library Reading Theme, Lethan is putting together a new program entitled “Bugs and Bugs and Bugs.”  For this performance, Lethan explores tales from around the world that involve a bug or many bugs and adapts them to his unique style of storytelling.  Or, if you would like to explore a different set of stories, Lethan can offer performances based around Classic Fairytales, American Folklore, or any number of different programs based around one theme or a combination of themes.  Whatever the program desired, Lethan will do his best to adapt the performance so it can best suit the audience he will be performing for.  A complete listing of the programs offered, and some more information, can be found on his website linked above.
