Intern Stuff

Play with some fun online toys

  • Though I wish I had the time to sit down with both of you one-on-one to show you some of the tools we use at ACLA (and that ultimately, you'll be using in your jobs as librarians!) there just isn't time.  : (  But, I've created a few pages that link to some of these tools and some sites to help you learn them, so during your first few weeks, it's going to be important you sit down and 'play.'  How about that for an assignment!

  • Also, here on the wiki is a new to ACLA Youth Services page that you should take some time to check out.

Order Titles off of ALA's 2008 Notable books

  • feel free to use the ACLA library card and pickup reserves wherever you'd like!  (simple reviews of these books might be some great first posts on the youth services blog!)

Sign up with GoodReads

  • to get you started, we can become 'friends' there (not necessary though!)

Subscribe to Google Reader RSS Feeds (or another feed reader)

  • Sign up somewhere or Google Reader
  • Subscribe to the blogs listed here
  • Read updated feeds for inspiration!

SRC 2009

  • Check out and familiarize yourself with the SRC 2008 wiki pages so you can get a sense of the kinds of tools and resources we provide each year
  • Plan to come (if your schedule permits!) to the SRC 2009 Planning Committee meetings - the first one is scheduled for Friday, September 5th 10-12 PM

Sock Monkey Project

  • We'll be creating a Sock Monkey reading list for a project we're doing to collect socks for homeless families.  We'll be working on that reading list in Publisher (if you don't know how to use Publisher, let me know!)
  • I have been keeping a running list of sock monkey books on Amazon here so you can check those out and you can add titles if you'd like (you can add them here or on the blog!)

Tween Task Force

  • List of titles on Amazon; again, another running list I've been keeping - it's a big one.  No idea what we'll do with it yet, but feel free to suggest titles (here or on blog) as you come upon them.
  • Karen Brooks-Reese is organizing a Tween Services Task Force; I'll keep you updated on how that is shaping up but it would be a great task force you both to be part of (either virtually or physically!)
